Honda is a billion dollar businessman in contemporary times; however this shiny figure has seen a series of failures in his initial phase of career too. In reality, he stayed jobless for a certain period of time. He was even turned down in a job interview for the position of an engineer by Toyota Motor Corporation. But his stubborn and impulsive attitude did not let him down and he begun the business of scooters at his own home. As a result of the encouragement of his neighbours, he established his own business.
Akio Morita:
You would laugh when I will tell you that the Japanese business man Akio Morita once launched his first product as rice cooker but failed to even sell 100 units of it. Surprisingly, he is the co-founder of Sony. People used to complaint that his cooker burns more rice than it cooks. However, his initial setback did not prevent him in making further progress and he created a million – billion dollar successful company - Sony which we all are very well aware of.
Bill Gates:
This huge magnate has attracted tremendous business from all over the world. But those who feel depressed after not getting admission in their favorite school or college or cant secure a seat in the desired company would heave a sigh of relief and will understand that failures are actually the building block of success after knowing the history of Bill Gates . Bill Gates who launched Microsoft is a dropout of Harvard University and experienced huge failure when he was a co-owner Traf- O-Data. However, he was obsessed with computer programming and driven by his passion, Gates became the owner of World’s largest software company. He has created a record of the youngest self made billionaire at the age of 31. He is a self made man and a huge inspiration to all. According to him, life is not fair and all of us should get used to it. He also says that we should not compare ourselves with others as this way we insult our existence. But this is his astonishing quote that I like tremendously- “Your even most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning”.
Walt Disney:
The name of Walt Disney is prevalent all over from merchandise to movies and in theme parks across the globe. Nevertheless, his life was not smooth and glittering as it looks today. He has created 81 feature films and earned more than 950 honors but all are the result of difficult and painful challenges and thorny moments. A newspaper editor fired him blaming that he is devoid of imagination. During his childhood, he was highly frustrated by the domineering nature of his father. He even lied to his father just because he wanted to earn money and wanted to work as an ambulance driver during the World War I. He missed the harmonious relationship in his family badly. He experienced bankruptcy at the age of 22. Though we know that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was his triumphant success but it was not easy. Before that, the ownership of a few characters were snatched from him too and all his efforts turned into vain. Walt Disney was devastated by his mother’s death when she was found dead by Carbon Monoxide poisoning. His 20 years old son was abducted and murdered but he still wanted to cherish his daughters and this gave him thought of opening amusement park enterprise. His many businesses failed but finally he achieved what he wanted to.
Albert Einstein:
We call Albert synonymous of genius today but you would be surprised that he failed to speak until 4 and read till 7 and this gave his teachers and parents the notion of him being mentally handicapped and slow learner. He was expelled from the school and could not get admission further in Zurich Polytechnic School too. But his mother did not lost hope and always encouraged him which made him win the Nobel Prize in Physics.
Winston Churchill:
Most of us would burst into laughter when we will hear that Winston Churchill failed in sixth grade. He experienced many political failures and was defeated in many elections for public office. But he was a man of iron thoughts and strong will power. In the later stages he won the Nobel Prize and was elected the Prime Minister of United Kingdom twice at the age of 62.
Charlie Chaplin:
The Hollywood studio chiefs rejected his act. According to them his acts were non-sense and such nonsense can’t be sold or tolerated by the audience. But today we all know that Charlie Chaplin is a mind-blowing character and his role is remarkable in film industry.
Michael Jordan:
He is one of the athletes who rocketed to fame even in the time of adversity. He himself commits that he was chucked out of the High School basketball team during his school tenure. Though this setback touched him deeply but he did not lost hope and learnt a lot from his failures. Michael states that he has lost around 300 games and has missed 9000 shots in his career. He even accepts that he could have entrusted his team won on 26 occasions where he has lost. He says that these failures will not stop him from winning and he would strive despite of the conditions he is living.
